Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I work and still get disability benefits from Social Security?
A. It depends on whether you receive SSDI or SSI. SSI is income-based. The first $65 of earned income does not count, but you lose $1 for each $2 you earn over that.

For SSDI you can usually earn less than the SGA(Substantial Gainful Activity) amount - $900 in 2007- and still receive your checks.

Q. What is the placement rate of the agency staff?
A. Placement rates vary depending on staff, but overall as an agency, Coleman achieves a 70 percent placement rate.

Q. What types of jobs do your clients get?
A. Clients work within a variety of industries including retail, manufacturing, business, food service, maintenance, education, health and human services, and healthcare among others.

Q. What is the process once you have become the chosen vendor?
A. The client is asked to come in to meet with staff and participate in an intake for services. An employment plan is created that is driven by the client. The plan is based on the client's preferences regarding work environment, job tasks, etc. The client then works actively with the staff person to build a resume and begin steps to secure employment.

Q. Why should I choose Coleman Employment Services over other vendors of the service?
A. Coleman Employment Services is a program of Coleman Professional Services, a nationally recognized not for profit provider of behavioral health and rehabilitation programs that improve the lives of individuals, families and businesses in Northeast Ohio. Coleman has received numerous awards for its services.

Q.  I represent a large employer in Northeast Ohio. Why should I choose to hire individuals who come through your program?
A. You should choose individuals who work with Coleman Employment Services because they are well prepared for the job that you have for them. In addition, they receive extra support while on the job, such as a training consultant or job coach. Also, as an employer who hires individuals with disabilities, you may qualify for several tax-credit programs sponsored by the federal government just because you do hire these individuals. None of these benefits include the fact that individuals with disabilities make the best workers with lower absenteeism rates and fewer turnovers on the job.
